Musashino ART HIKE is a new form of art festival where you encounter art through a physical experience. While Tokorozawa, the setting for this event, offers convenient access from central Tokyo, once you step into the area, you’ll find the bountiful nature of Musashino depicted in literature and film still thriving today.
The journey of treading the earth with your own feet and cutting through the wind on a bicycle... I believe that process itself is an artistic experience. Artists gathered from across the country have been inspired by the nature and history of this land to create original works. Their works will serve as guideposts for your journey, encouraging dialogue with the landscape and awakening the memories that lie dormant in the land.
While traversing the route, be sure to pause for a moment. The rustling of the trees, the scent of the earth, the shifting gradations of light... Countless discoveries await you that you might overlook in daily life.
The Bike Bench I installed in Tokorozawa last year was inspired by the bountiful nature of Musashino as well. You can quietly pedal along and experience it among the natural scenery.
This fall, how about embarking on an artistic journey that you can complete at your own pace? I hope this turns into a special experience where you take a slight step away from the conveniences of life and rediscover the charm of Musashino through your physical body.
