This area is blessed with an environment rich in nature that has long been depicted in literature and film, and it offers convenient access from central Tokyo.

Each route starts from train stations along the Seibu railway lines and other stations, so even those without cars can participate. Please come experience the unique charms of this place as you visit art pieces and Tokorozawa’s tourist attractions along the way by foot or bicycle.

MESSAGE

Musashino ART HIKE is a new form of art festival where you encounter art through a physical experience. While Tokorozawa, the setting for this event, offers convenient access from central Tokyo, once you step into the area, you’ll find the bountiful nature of Musashino depicted in literature and film still thriving today.

The journey of treading the earth with your own feet and cutting through the wind on a bicycle... I believe that process itself is an artistic experience. Artists gathered from across the country have been inspired by the nature and history of this land to create original works. Their works will serve as guideposts for your journey, encouraging dialogue with the landscape and awakening the memories that lie dormant in the land.

While traversing the route, be sure to pause for a moment. The rustling of the trees, the scent of the earth, the shifting gradations of light... Countless discoveries await you that you might overlook in daily life.

The Bike Bench I installed in Tokorozawa last year was inspired by the bountiful nature of Musashino as well. You can quietly pedal along and experience it among the natural scenery.

This fall, how about embarking on an artistic journey that you can complete at your own pace? I hope this turns into a special experience where you take a slight step away from the conveniences of life and rediscover the charm of Musashino through your physical body.

FAQ

FAQ

What are hiking and trekking?
These are activities where you enjoy scenery and culture while walking through nature. Generally speaking, hiking refers to relatively short-distance walks with light equipment, while trekking involves walking longer distances and fully experiencing what mountain trails and rural landscapes have to offer. Neither requires special skills, and even beginners can casually participate.
What clothing is appropriate for hiking? What should I bring?
We recommend comfortable clothing and easy-to-walk-in shoes (sneakers or trekking shoes). It’s also recommended that you bring a towel, beverages, a hat, and rain gear (a folding umbrella or raincoat).
How should I choose a course?
Please choose based on the distance and estimated time according to your level of physical fitness and schedule.
If I get injured or feel unwell along the way, can I rest at a rest area? Where are AEDs located?
The event does not have dedicated rest areas. We recommend taking breaks at public facilities or cafes listed on the map as needed. If you feel unwell, do not push yourself. Call off the trek. If a companion collapses or stops breathing, call an ambulance or seek medical attention immediately.
Additionally, an AED map is available on the Saitama Prefecture GIS (Geographic Information System), so please check this in advance.
Are there any rules for participation (with regard to health management, nature conservation, etiquette, etc.)?
  • ・Please refrain from participating if you have any health concerns.
  • ・Take your trash with you.
  • ・Do not touch plants, animals, or artwork.
  • ・Please be considerate of other participants and local residents.

Children of elementary school age and above may participate. Those in the lower grades of elementary school must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Are there bicycles available for rent, such as bike-sharing services?
There are bike-sharing ports in the area around the venue. Numbers are limited, so we recommend checking in advance.
Are there bicycle parking areas at each point, such as at the art venues?
General bicycle parking spaces are available near each venue. Please use them according to the map instructions. However, please note that bicycle racks that are compatible with road bikes are only available in limited locations.
Is there parking near the course start?
While paid parking is available, spaces are limited, so we recommend using public transportation.
